Pet aftercare is the thoughtful handling of a pet’s remains after death. We want to work with you to care for you and your companion during this difficult time. We don’t bury your pet, and we don’t use a flame-based process to return your pet to the earth. Our BioReturn system is the most respectful, most natural, and most environmentally-friendly process for pets at the end of life.

Pet memorials are urns, burial vessels, scattering bags, paw prints impressed in clay – various items that allow you to memorialize your pet for your family. The Companah store has items that we have selected that are locally sourced and a level of quality appropriate for remembering a member of your family.

Yes, we do offer a modern and environmentally responsible process of disposition – but it is not flame-based. Our BioReturn system uses gentle water flow, temperature and alkalinity to accelerate our ecosystem’s natural method of breaking down organic matter. During that time, a combination of 95% warm water and 5% alkali gently rushes over the body. At the end of the BioReturn process, your companion’s physical components have been returned to their natural elements, dispersed in water – with only the solid bone remaining. If desired, the mineral bone ash is returned to those who request returned remains.

So how do you pronounce “Companah”? And how did you come up with that name?

Companah, written phonetically:
kom-PAN-uh

We chose this as the name for our business as a mash-up of fundamental principles of who we are – compassion for our companions. Our pets are part of our family, and upon their loss they are worthy of as much grace and respect as we can give them.

The cost of our services vary with the breed and size of your pet. It can be a bit complicated, but we’ve created a guided form that will help you see what the cost of services would be for your pet. Click here, and a panel will open to your left that will ask a few questions and provide you with an estimate of our costs.

Absolutely. We will work with any veterinary service provider, picking up your pet at their facility and returning in a timely fashion.  We can also receive your pet at our location or arrange to come to your home to accept your companion into our care.

We’re located in central North Carolina, with our facility in southern Wake County. Being here in the center of the state, we are able to provide services from the mountains to the sea.

More often than not, adult and older pets that are up for adoption are not fully considered as a family looks to bring a new pet in to their household. We at Companah are putting a strong financial commitment to encouraging families to consider adopting older pets.
