Why we rebuilt companah.com

Our old website worked. But it didn't feel like us — and it didn't meet families where they actually are. Here's why we started over.

A person walking with their companion down a misty forest path

Our old website did its job. It listed our services, took messages, and showed up when you searched for pet cremation in North Carolina. But every time we looked at it, we saw the gap between what it said and who we are.

When a family calls us, a real person answers — someone who knows that a really hard phone call deserves more than a hold menu. The old site couldn't carry that. It looked like every other service website: menus, boxes, buttons asking you to act now. And the families who needed us most were arriving at the worst moment of their year, usually on a phone, often in tears.

So we started over, with one question guiding every decision: what does someone need in their first hard hour?

The answer shaped everything. The very first thing on the new homepage — before our name, before any picture — is a single quiet sentence: if your companion has just passed, here's what to do. It leads to a step-by-step guide written for that hour: permission to take your time, what to do tonight, and our phone number, in that order.

The rest followed from the same question. Our pricing is written down and the same for every family, because wondering what something costs is a weight nobody should carry into a phone call. The watercolor illustrations — companions and their people, always walking on ahead of us — set the pace we actually work at: unhurried. And whether you reach us by call, text, message, or our new chat assistant, the promise is the same one we make in person.

From the beginning, you promised to love your companion through all the sunrises and sunsets. We're here to help keep that promise — to honor them, and bring them home forever.

That's why we rebuilt it. Not because the old site was broken — because it wasn't us. If you'd like the tour of what's new, we wrote one. And if today is a hard day, skip all of this and call or text us at (919) 728-7200. A real person answers, 8am–8pm, every day.
